General News for the Sandy Guild Members

I have added a new page, in the right sidebar, with a list of the books we currently have in our Library.  To view the list, simply click on: "Our Library".  To check out these books, please speak to Karla.  If you have any books or DVD's you would like to donate, they would be welcomed.  Sharing knowledge is a wonderful gift.

Christmas is fast approaching and we are trying to make plans for our annual Christmas Party.  This year we are unable to secure our usual caterer, but we thought a potluck, family style meal was the next best thing.  We are ordering a Honey-Baked Ham as the main meat dish.  If you would like to bring a side dish to go with the main dish, please let Sharron Bell know what you would like to bring.  Her number is: 801 676 9904  There is plenty of time for you to decide.  I will send out another reminder next month.  Please let her know whether or not you prefer Apple Juice or Apple Cider.  (We will provide these refreshments as well).

Gift Exchange-in the past we have shared either a 5 x 7 or 8 x 10 watercolor and it is such a favorite gift, we will be doing another exchange this year at the party.

If anyone would like to volunteer to help with the party, decorations, music, table settings, etc. please contact Sharron.

Our October Meeting on the 15th is the annual Dick Blick Demo!  Mark your calendars!

Our November Meeting  on the 19th we will be making Christmas Cards with Virginia Kimball!

Our December Meeting on the 17th will be our annual festive Christmas Party!  Please plan to share the evening with good friends, delicious food, fun and laughter.

Virginia Kimball Watercolor Classes

There have been some changes with the Canyon Community Education that has been scheduling Virginia's classes, they have recently downsized their adult programs in favor of their new Alternative School and after school programs.  In order to continue offering her watercolor classes, Virginia has made some changes herself.  She now offers 4, two hour time slots at her in home/studio.  The classes she will be offering, begin on:
Wed. September 16th 5:30-7:30 & 7:30-9:30 and on Thursday 5:30-7:30 & 7:30-9:30.  These are 8 week courses for $65.  If you have other commitments, but can make a few of these classes, you can pay as you go, for just $10 per class!  Day classes will be considered if enough interest is shown.

These classes will be similar to those of the past, however, without the school restrictions, you will
have the freedom to explore and do more experimental work.  Virginia has been taking workshops all summer and is excited to share her experience and new found knowledge with you.  If you are interested in signing up for Virginia's classes or you have more questions, please give her a call at: 801 571 6288, or email her at: vkimball14@gmail.com

June Meeting is in Plein Aire

The next Sandy Water Color Guild Meeting will be on Thursday June 19th.  We will meet at the gazebo west of the Sandy Senior Center for Plein Aire Painting and a Pot Luck Dinner. Bring something yummi to share.
Virginia Kimball will be there to give us tips...and  it's getting close to the solstice, so it should stay light enough for us to paint for quite a while. This will be fun, especially since you've all got your new plein aire kits organized (right???)...so let's try it. You might not be comfortable at first, but you'll get the hang of it...and it's surprising how well this exercise will help you understand contrasts of light and dark.
In July, we take a break. NO MEETING.  Then August 21 we'll start up again.
Colleen Reynolds has a Brusho workshop on Saturday August 23. You can sign up through her website and pay with paypal. (Click her link in the right sidebar) It's simple. If you are going to pay with a check, please bring it to the June meeting. It's so much less work if the checks come in all at once and don't straggle over a couple months time.
We have been asking for help with managing the club. Here are some responsibilities you could volunteer for.
-workshop coordinator
-meeting scheduler
-membership recorder (keeping up contact info)
We'll be discussing this at the next meeting
Check us out on Facebook by typing in Sandy Watercolor Guild in the search section.  Then "Like" us!

Chinese Brushwork Workshop hosted by Virginia

If you didn't attend Virginia's recent workshop on Chinese Brushwork, you missed out on a wonderful, fun filled day.  Virginia opened her home to us and her amazing studio space was perfectly arranged to accommodate those of us who had the opportunity to join her.  She even had decorated this space for the Chinese New Year and provided a delectable luncheon that Suzan, Maggie and Karla helped to prepare.  (Thank You Ladies-it was Delicious!)
The workshop was extremely relaxed and you knew you were in a friends inviting home the whole time.  The feeling of being welcome was always present.  Virginia was a gracious host and her teaching methods for this difficult style of painting were helpful and encouraging.  There was no stress, just simple brush strokes, combined to create some amazing watercolor paintings.  These paintings were created by Karla: Thank You for Sharing them with us!
The first one is the Chrysanthemum and the one below that is the plum blossom.
