Monday Paint Group

Our little group is expanding with more and more members coming back to join in the fun.  Every Monday afternoon we meet and share ideas, paint, chat and enjoy each others company. 














Karla and Gwen shared their experimental painting with us.  Using a watercolor ground on paper, they were painting goldfish for Sandi's Friday class.

and Bonnie shared a work in progress with me, which I just love and I hope she will finish.  It reminded me of the older record album covers.

 

Watercolor Artist Magazine

on pages 51-59 there is a wonderful art project that involves color theory.  I loved this article so much that I started a new series of paintings based on these color palettes. 
I selected an easy drawing of a rusty truck I had painted last year and made 6 tracings, one for each color palette I will be using.  These are the first 2 that I finished yesterday.  Only 4 more to go or, will I decide to explore color further by adding my favorite palettes to the mix too....YEAH!

On page 61-65 there is a painting project using Koi fish.  In Sandi Olson's Friday Group, (next group meets March 28th!) we will be exploring this topic.  Whenever I go to Las Vegas, I always manage to find my way over to the Flamingo Hotel.  Why?  Not for the gambling, even though I do enjoy that as well, but for the Flamingo Park that was built in the central courtyard.  In this courtyard you will also find Koi ponds with the largest Koi I've ever seen.  Along with 2 black swans and a pelican, some large box turtles and lots of ducks.  The world famous Flamingo Fountain is also located here, so if you get down to Las Vegas, make sure to take a stroll through this amazing place.
 

Sandi's Friday Group

Usually I remember to take photos of our gatherings, but I was so immersed in the still life drawing project that I totally forgot.  So, this week I will share my finished version of the arrangement. 
Sandi has a distinctive wet in wet painting technique and I wish I could paint like her.  Maybe some day, I will certainly continue to try.  But, in the meantime, my style is glazing because as a newbie to this medium, it is what I learned first.  Building my colors from the lightest to the darkest while trying to leave the white of the paper is no easy feat and I am still struggling with it.  Thank goodness we have masking fluid! 

Friday Gathering with Sandi Olson

Every 1st & last Fridays of each month, Sandi Olson teaches watercolor classes out on Redwood Road between 106th and 114th at the Jordan Senior Center.  (West Side of street by the Rec. Center- sorry I don't know the exact address but it's easy to find).  It's 10-Noon and for $3 per session, you can come and paint for a couple of hours and Sandi is there to help teach us some fun watercolor projects. 
I missed last week but the painting was of rocks and the photos below show you the photo the class was working on and one of the students paintings. 
This coming Friday, we will be working on a still life arrangement that Sandi will be setting up for us.  Come and join the fun! 

Monday Paint Group

On Monday afternoons, over at the Sandy Senior Center, watercolor artists unite to enjoy a peaceful, quiet afternoon, painting and enjoying each others company.  Today we had a handful of people show up, due to the hectic holidays, but here are a few of the paintings that were created today:


This first image is a project Yvonne is working on for Sandi Olson's Friday Morning Class.  It's held at the South Jordan Senior Center between 11400-10600 S. on Redwood Road, 10 to Noon the first & last Fridays of each month.  Sandi also teaches Oil Painting on Tues. at the same building. 














The second painting was created by Jim and it reminds me of the mountains we all see everyday to the east of us.  The third image was also created by Jim and this one reminds me of the trees surrounding Lake Tahoe. 
































Bonnie did this adorable cats!  Bonnie also teaches here locally at Indian Hills Middle School "Art for Children (Ages 6+) on Tues. 6-7 beginning Jan. 14th and she teaches Art for Tiny Tots (Ages 3-5) at the same school but from 5:00- 5:30 & 5:30 -6:00 beginning Jan. 14th.  Cost is $30 for the 6+ and $20 for the other class + a $15 material fee paid directly to Bonnie at the first class.  For on-line registration: Canyons Community Education or register at the Community Ed Office at: 825 E. 9085 S. Room 107 on Jan. 6th-7th & 8th from 9-4 only. 










This final image is one I am working on but since I didn't have the right supplies with me, I ended up using a gold gel pen (which will be spritzed with water for the visual effect) and I will add some gesso to the dew drops later.
