LUCY BEALE PARTRIDGE WORKSHOP FEB. 15

Here is the information you need for Lucy's workshop coming SOON! Be sure to sign up for this fun day Saturday, Feb.15!

Adding textures to your watercolor paintings.

I am excited to show you the textural techniques I use for my watercolor paintings. See below. They’re fun to use and give interesting and sometimes unexpected results. You’ll practice many of these techniques and paint a landscape or flowers from your source photos.

Using textural technique can be a bit messy, so bring an apron or old shirt (I wear one of my husband’s.)

You’ll paint two-three paintings.

For textural techniques to give you the best results, use the paper and paints recommended below.

SUPPLY LIST:

1. 140-pound watercolor paper, preferably Fabriano Artistico extra white cold press. Bring 2-4 quarter sheets (11 x 14 inches). Arches 140-pound cold press also works. Don’t use 300 pound as it's is too absorbent. Watercolor notebook paper or blocks won’t give you good results.

2. Masking tape and support on which to tape paper, such as gator board, pressed board and plastic corrugated board.

3. At least 3 tubes of artist-quality watercolor paint. If you can only bring 3, bring Daniel Smith quinacridone rose, French ultramarine, and quinacridone gold.- a red, blue and yellow. If not, Winsor Newton artists grade is ok. Don’t use pressed pan paints or studio-grade tube paints. (I will bring a couple extra tubes of paint and you're welcome to share if you don’t already have these or similar colors. Amazon.com has the best price on Daniel Smith paints.)

4. Large round and flat brushes. Preferably size 12, 14, 16 ,plus. Bring a couple smaller brushes for detail work. A 3/4 inch to 1-inch flat brush works well. Smaller brushes won’t work for washes.

5. Spray water bottle, water containers (larger rather than small - holds a quart or more), pencil, eraser, palette, paper towels, plastic trash bag. Bring what you already have and you can share with other class members. I’ll bring waxed paper and cling wrap.

6. 3-4 source photos of landscapes and/or flowers. Bring more than one.

&. Nice to have but not necessary. Watercolor pencils and crayons, acrylic inks in dropper bottles, granulating medium, masking fluid, alcohol in dropper bottle, oil pastel crayons, salt, stamps and stencils, X-acto knife. Titanium white tube paint. We can share.
