Brenda Brunello has had to cancel our Third Thursday presentation in APRIL.
This seems like a great chance for us to use an extended afternoon to create a composition sketchbook/workbook/collection with Virginia's guidance. I mentioned before that if you have collected some images you want to paint, or just find inspiring, you can use those. I have a number of thumbnail images I've scavenged and will share on a printed sheet so we can cut and paste, creating our own collection of composition strategies that make sense in our own work.
On sketching:
If you watched the Mary Gilkerson video this week, she also recommends making a 'notan,' a values sketch using a soft pencil to describe the 5 or so tones that should underlie any painting.

and this:
FEB 22, Thursday afternoon: Alicia Schilder will share a fun creation she's used before, using two paintings to make a new painting. It involves cutting one painting into strips and incorporating them onto the other painting to create a whole new look. She'll describe it better than I can, but meantime, look through your old work (we all have THAT, don't we?), find two of similar size and content, and think about whether you can use them as described above to make a third 'collage painting.' The cut strips can be glued on horizontally or vertically and this makes quite a statement. We'll need scissors, aprons and your old paintings for a start. Alicia says she already has 23 pairs of paintings that she would love to part with for your use! If you don't have 2 paintings to part with, Alicia can provide. So, more info as it develops. We'll try to make everything else available for you.
